The Gryphon and Friends

Day 3 - For today’s viewing pleasure is the Gryphon (or griffin if you prefer) and friends!

A gryphon is a combination of eagle head/wings and lion hindquarters. There are several slight variations but the most common has eagle talons for front legs as well. The gryphon was considered the King of Beasts, being a combination of the King of the Sky and King of the Land Animals.

Next we have a variation know as an alce or a keythong, which has just the head of an eagle on a lions body. I think you’ll agree that he looks a bit boring next to his cousins. Sorry buddy.

And finally we have the result of a gryphon doing the do with a mare - the hippogryph! I think he feels sorry for the alce and is offering a friendly bro-fist…
